Toledo Torch

The “Toledo Torch” or “smudge pot” was a small, round kerosene-burning torch manufactured by The Toledo Pressed Steel Co. starting in 1929. Because of its resemblance to cartoon bombs, it became quite popular and millions were produced. These torches were primarily used at road construction sites across the United States but other companies also manufactured similar devices. However, they have now been replaced by flaming pink road flares and traffic barrels. The Toledo Torch was about 8 inches wide and 8 inches tall.
